Cybersecurity: Automotive’s Pivotal Challenge

The automotive industry is undergoing a significant transformation. Modern vehicles are no longer just mechanical machines; they are becoming sophisticated, interconnected systems powered by complex software. This shift is reshaping the automotive landscape, bringing new opportunities and challenges.

Modern vehicles have evolved into complex machines, each containing up to 150 Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and more than 100 million lines of software code, projected to rise to 300 million by 2030. These vehicles boast more software than any platforms like Facebook, Microsoft Office 2013, and even the Boeing 787. As the software integration in vehicles increases, so does the risk of bugs and vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by malicious attackers, leading to severe consequences for safety, privacy, and vehicle operation.

By 2025, over 470 million connected vehicles are expected globally, significantly raising cybersecurity risks. Since 2016, there has been a staggering 605% increase in automotive cybersecurity incidents, with a 339% growth observed since 2018 alone. The automotive industry could face losses of up to US$505 billion due to cyberattacks by 2024.

As vehicles become more connected and reliant on software, cybersecurity has emerged as a critical concern. The ecosystem of connected cars extends beyond the vehicles themselves to include Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Tier 1 suppliers, backend systems, partners, vendors, charging infrastructure, and more. Each component presents unique cybersecurity challenges that must be addressed comprehensively.

To address these challenges, automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers must implement robust cybersecurity measures in all phases, from design through manufacturing, validation, verification, and ongoing monitoring and updates. FPT Software and VinCSS cooperate to solve this problem.

VinCSS and FPT Software Accelerate Cybersecurity in the Automotive Industry

Recognizing the growing demand on automotive security, FPT Software and VinCSS join forces. Their collaboration aims to provide OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with cybersecurity solutions and services that comply with global industry standards, by combining both sides’ resources, expertise, and networks.

As part of the MoU, FPT Software will integrate VinCSS’s solutions into its existing products and services to improve its cybersecurity capabilities. This integration will enable FPT Software to access more demanding markets such as the US and Europe, where VinCSS’s certified automotive cybersecurity solutions are essential for compliance with high safety standards. VinCSS will also provide cybersecurity training materials and resources, empowering FPT Software to engage effectively with customers.

This collaboration will allow VinCSS to access FPT Software’s global client network, generating new business opportunities and sales revenue.

“With FPT Software’s decade-long experience, scalable workforce, and global presence, combined with VinCSS’s cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions, we are confident that this partnership will pave the way for us to deliver exceptional values to our global clients and shape the future of connected mobility,” said Kinh Nguyen, FPT Automotive CEO.
