In today’s hyper-connected world, IoT (Internet of Things) devices are everywhere—smartphones, home assistants, surveillance cameras, medical devices, industrial machinery, etc. By 2025, over 75 billion IoT devices are expected to be in use worldwide.

While these devices offer convenience and innovation, they also present significant security risks. Studies reveal that 70% of IoT devices are vulnerable to attacks, and 57% of organizations struggle to secure them, making IoT security one of the top five concerns for IT leaders across industries. Without robust security measures, these devices can serve as open doors for cybercriminals, compromising entire networks.

Recognizing this urgent need, VinCSS—a cybersecurity startup supported by Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest conglomerate, and a sibling to VinFast and other leading technology companies, including one recently acquired by NVIDIA—swiftly focused its mission on addressing IoT security challenges.

“We saw this as a major problem,” recalls Simon Trac Do, CEO of VinCSS. “That is why we decided to invest in FIDO Device Onboarding (FDO) solutions so that IoT device onboarding could be improved dramatically while laying the groundwork for expanding into other IoT security domains.”

Our FDO solutions can significantly cut down onboarding time by up to 90%. This acceleration is especially critical in large-scale deployments, where organizations must efficiently onboard hundreds or thousands or even more devices. With our solutions, manual interventions are minimized, reducing the risk of human errors—a common cause of security vulnerabilities. In hazardous environments, such as factories or hospitals, automated processes eliminate the need for workers to be physically present, reducing the risk of accidents.”

This vision aligned with the efforts of the FIDO Alliance, an international consortium backed by global tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Dell and Intel, which introduced FDO. FDO is an open industry standard designed to streamline the deployment, setup, and connection of IoT devices, making the process faster, safer, more secure and more efficient.

As FDO was a completely new standard, many global technology companies are still working to research, develop and find chances to commercialize it.

VinCSS began its ambitious journey just three years ago, swiftly assembling a dedicated team. Since then, the company has consistently pioneered and successfully commercialized groundbreaking FDO solutions, including the world’s first FDO-enabled cameras, FDO-integrated smart parking sensors, FDO for Wi-Fi routers, and the innovative FDO Network Deployment Solution—the first of its kind globally.

In September 2024, among several world’s tech giants, VinCSS achieved a historic milestone of becoming the first company in the world to secure three FDO certifications from FIDO Alliance.

“It is more than just a technical achievement for us,” emphasizes Simon. “VinCSS possesses all the key components needed to meet FDO certification requirements, including FDO-enabled devices, the IoT Platform and the Rendezvous Server. These elements allow VinCSS not only to create its own solutions but also to support other companies looking to certify their devices. This is why we are now eager to collaborate with IoT device manufacturers worldwide, helping them enhance their products’ security and achieve international certifications like FDO.”

There’s more to it than that, VinCSS has recently been honored with the 2024 Global IoT Security Transformational Innovation Leadership Award by Frost & Sullivan, recognizing its leadership in the global IoT security market. This marks the third consecutive year VinCSS has received a prestigious accolade from this renowned research organization.

These milestones represent a broader vision from Vietnam to the global technology stage. As a humble startup, VinCSS embodies a pioneering spirit to think big, adapt rapidly, and dare to be innovative, The company’s success has not only elevated its brand but has also positioned Vietnam as a rising leader in IoT security, inspiring other local startups to think globally.

VinCSS plans to expand its IoT security innovations further, focusing on more applications across industries. The company is exploring opportunities in smart cities, healthcare, and transportation—industries where secure, large-scale IoT deployment is critical. Moreover, VinCSS is actively seeking collaborations with international partners to strengthen global IoT security ecosystems and enhance its range of FDO-enabled solutions.

“We are just getting started,” concludes Simon. “Protecting IoT systems is an ongoing marathon for many countries and regions, with numerous nations already implementing policies to enhance IoT cybersecurity. At VinCSS, we remain dedicated to relentless innovation, collaboration, and setting new global standards for IoT security.”
